A Rovaniemi construction company's new website scores 99 for speed on mobile
Rakennusliike K. Alaoja Oy is a construction and renovation company in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland, founded in 1988, with about 20 people. We replaced their WordPress site with a new construction company website, built with a hand-coded one; two days after launch Google PageSpeed Insights measured the home page at 99 on mobile.

- Client: Rakennusliike K. Alaoja Oy
- Industry: Construction and renovation
- Location: Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland
- Launched: 26 October 2026
- Built: Hand-coded site: 8 service pages, a filterable gallery of 15 projects, a photo gallery and a contact form asking the project type first. Hosted by NordicHost in Helsinki.
- Website: rakennusalaoja.fi
The challenge

The old 12-page WordPress site, built with a page builder, had its own page for only a few of the company's jobs: water damage repair, plinth repair and accommodation building. Bathrooms, apartment renovation, pipe renovation, commercial premises and new builds shared one general services page, though buyers search for the job, not the company. The company also had its own project photos and brand guidelines, and the new site had to show both.
What we learned about their buyers
The company sells to two very different buyers.
- Homeowners with an urgent problem. Proof you've done their exact job, and how to get in touch.
- Housing companies, property managers and businesses. Board-level decisions; they want similar projects, history and size.
So the site leads with services and references, and the contact form first asks what kind of project it is.
The construction company website we built

A hand-coded site around the services the company wants more of, with its own photos and brand.
- A page for each service. Five for homeowners and housing companies: water damage repair, foundation and plinth repair, bathrooms, apartment renovation and pipe renovation. Three for business clients: commercial premises, new builds and accommodation buildings.
- References buyers can filter. A gallery of 15 finished projects, plus a photo gallery.
- Contact form sorted by project type. So the right person replies with the right information.
- Their brand, not ours. Their own brand guidelines: colours, typefaces and logo.
- Old addresses redirected. Every old WordPress address points to its new page.
- Built for speed. Images in modern formats at the right size, logo from 1.3 MB to 5 kB, every file compressed and cached.
- Hosted in Helsinki. NordicHost's servers, with no WordPress plugins to update.
- Spam protection, added after launch. Stops automated messages without making real people solve puzzles.
Results
The home page scored 99 for mobile performance in Google PageSpeed Insights on 28 October 2026, two days after launch, and every figure below comes from that report.
Google's limit for a good Largest Contentful Paint is 2.5 seconds (web.dev, 2025); of the 85 SME sites we measured the same day, 30 hand-coded sites had a median mobile score of 91.5 and a median Largest Contentful Paint of 2.95 seconds, and 12 sites built on templates, WordPress or site builders had a median of 68.5 and 8.35 seconds. We have no PageSpeed score for the old site, so we don't show a before figure.
What's next
Next we'll measure what the site brings in. When there's enough data, and the client agrees, we'll add quote requests by project type and how the service pages appear in Google Search.
