Visuco, a website builder or a traditional agency?
Website builder or agency? Here is a fair comparison. If you want a simple site and enjoy building it yourself, a builder may be all you need. If you want a site built for you, that gets found and has its speed in the contract, that's what we do.

Website builder or agency: the comparison at a glance

The biggest differences are who does the work, who owns the result and what's promised in writing.
| Visuco | Website builders and AI builders | Traditional agency | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Code and domain | Both in your name from day one | Domain can be yours. Wix and Squarespace sites stay on the platform; some AI builders export the code | Depends on the contract |
| Speed in the contract | Mobile PageSpeed 90+ at handover, with a dated report | Not offered | Sometimes. Ask for it in writing |
| Custom tools | Designed and built for your business | Marketplace apps, often with their own monthly fee | Possible, often through plugins |
| Monthly fees | No licence fee. Hosting with NordicHost | A subscription while the site is live | Often maintenance or licence fees |
| Who does the work | We do: research, texts, design, tools and launch | You do | The agency |
| First version | At our first meeting | As soon as you start building | After briefing and design rounds |
| SEO and AI-ready structure | Built into every page | The settings exist; you fill them in | Depends on the agency |
| Support | The people who built your site, and NordicHost | Help centre and platform support | Depends on the contract |
Website builders such as Wix and Squarespace
A builder is the quickest and cheapest way to get a site online, and for some businesses that's right. The trade-offs show up later:
- The site stays on the platform. Wix sites must run on Wix's own servers (Wix, 2026); Squarespace exports only part of the content, without styles or custom code (Squarespace, 2026).
- Speed depends on the platform and the site. In 2025, 74% of Wix sites passed Google's Core Web Vitals on mobile, against 45% of WordPress sites (HTTP Archive, 2026). Our own October 2026 measurement is below.
- The SEO settings are there, but you fill them in.
AI website builders

AI builders such as Lovable and Gamma produce a working site from a few sentences, and some, including Lovable, let you export the code to GitHub (Lovable, 2026).
What they can't do is the research. In a June 2026 test of 93 live sites from Wix, Lovable, Gamma and other AI and no-code tools, the average Lighthouse SEO score was 96 out of 100, yet 66% had no H1 heading, 75% had no structured data and the median mobile LCP was 6.6 seconds (DevNova, 2026), a test published by a studio that builds custom-coded sites.
Traditional web agencies
A good agency does the research, design and building for you. The differences are in the contract, so ask any agency, including us:
Who owns the code and the domain?
Both in your name, in writing.
Is speed in the contract?
Ask for a mobile PageSpeed score and measurement method.
What runs the site?
Many agency sites run WordPress with plugins; in 2025, 45% of WordPress sites passed Google's Core Web Vitals on mobile (HTTP Archive, 2026).
What does it cost each month?
Maintenance, licences and plugin subscriptions add up.
First version when?
Usually after design rounds; with us, at the first meeting.
Where Visuco fits
We're for SMEs that want a site built for them, owned by them and measured.
We're not the right choice if you want to edit everything yourself or need a publishing system with many editors. We don't run ads or build customer management systems.
When a builder is the better choice
A builder is a good choice when your website isn't how you win customers. For example, when:
- you're testing a new idea and need something online this week
- most of your work comes from referrals and repeat customers
- you enjoy building and updating the site yourself, and have the time
- you need a simple page with your contact details and little else
If your customers compare you with competitors on Google and in AI answers before they call, let's talk.
Questions about the options
Still deciding? Ask us anything. We reply to every message ourselves.
Ask a questionIs a website builder bad for SEO?
Not by itself, but someone has to use the settings well. In a June 2026 test of 93 builder sites, 66% had no H1 heading despite an average SEO score of 96.
Can you move my Wix site to you?
We rebuild it. Wix sites can't leave Wix, but your domain can, and we redirect your old addresses so you keep what you've earned in Google.
Why not use an AI builder myself?
You can. You'd be doing the research, writing, tools, technical checks and measurement yourself, which is the part we do.
Is Visuco more expensive than a builder?
At the start, yes. Over the life of the site, compare the subscription, paid apps and your own hours with one fixed price and a site you own.
Do you build on WordPress?
No. We write plain, lightweight code with no plugins to update; if you need WordPress, a WordPress agency is the better choice.
What happens if I leave you later?
Your site leaves with you. The code and the domain are yours, so another developer or host can take over.
